ABOUT THE BAYSIDE ASTRONOMY PROGRAM

The Bayside Astronomy program began in 2013 when Doug and Paula Cunningham, two truly  remarkable amateur astronomers, recognized the importance of preserving our dark skies on the Bruce Peninsula. Together with the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association and a group of dedicated volunteers, they began to share the wonders of the night sky to raise awareness of how light pollution can greatly affect our opportunity to see the stars in our galaxy and beyond. Thanks to their efforts, our community is now designated as a "Dark Sky Community," committed to the use of dark sky friendly lighting in our Municipality.

The Bayside Astronomy program has become an extremely popular and successful program, attracting visitors from around the world. Each week throughout the summer, amateur astronomers and a student facilitator set up telescopes and share their knowledge, offering amazing views of planets, galaxies and other celestial objects.

For more information visit their website or follow the Bayside Astronomy Program on Facebook.

THIS SUMMER:
For the safety of volunteers and visitors alike, the Bayside Astronomy program was postponed in 2020. A decision regarding the program for the 2021 season has not been announced. Check back in June for an update.

And while staying with us, be sure to take a walk down to the beach at night and enjoy a stellar view!
